Osmanthus heterophyllus is an evergreen shrub with dark, glossy green leathery leaves and small, fragrant, tubular white flowers with 4 lobes, followed by ovoid blue-black fruits. Ideal for an evergreen hedge as responds well to trimming. Can be a good, quicker growing alternative to Holly. Prefers partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. Ultimate height 5 metres. Needs little or no pruning. Flowers appear in late winter or early spring.
