E. gunnii is a large evergreen tree with peeling cream and brown bark. Juvenile foliage bright glaucous-blue, rounded; adult leaves elliptic or sickle-shaped, grey-green. Flowers white, in small clusters. Prefers moist but well-drained soil but will tolerate poorly drained and well-drained soils. Best in full sun and if possible sheltered from cold easterly winds. Ultimate height 12 metres but regular pruning will encourage newer growth each year. Can be cut quite hard back.
